I have been amazed at how many dragonflies I’ve seen this summer, at times they felt like pesty flies that I needed to swat away ~ I’ve never seen so many! I’m surprised by the variety of size and colors they come in. This green one in the first photo is huge, I’d say about 8″ across, it scared me when it flew by, I did not know what it was until it landed.
They say the dragonfly symbolizes change and since there are so many I think it might correlate with BIG change?? For me this rings true. I’ve experienced some big changes, and so many people close to me are going through big life changing episodes. How about you?

While reading up on dragonflies, I found a few things that astound me… they can fly 45mph and can move in 6 directions – up, down, side to side, forward and backwards! And they hover like helicopters. They can see 360 degrees ~ I don’t understand how, but how cool is that!?
What I find most magical is the iridescent colors that dance around depending on the light. Perhaps they signify magical change.
I wish I had iridescent wings (⁀‵⁀)

I’ve seen more variety in colors of them this year, too, though I’ve never seen one as large as yours! How did you ever get pictures of them? Their capabilities are amazing.

i recently wrote about all the dragonflies at the pond and how there are so many of them, everywhere…..
and even with all of your amazing images, the ones we seem to have the most of, aren’t even represented here…..now that’s amazing since you don’t live that far away and are also in the midwest.
i had no idea there were so many varieties of them….and no wonder they’re so fast and that i can’t sneak up on them….they can see me coming no matter what i do.
now i wonder what change is ahead of me 🙂

They really are so exquisite..as are your stunning captures of them. Interesting to think of these dragonflies as harbingers of change…but there may be some truth to it.

I love dragonflies! I like the symbolism of change. I’ve also heard they bring good luck!

These are great dragonfly captures! They are charming, magical creatures! I haven’t seen many – the only one was like Stripes. They must like to land on wood – the one I saw was on my deck.

I am so impressed! Today I visited a marshy place where the frogs and dragonflies were numerous. However, I could NOT capture one of those winged blue beauties…to save myself! And then I see this whole series of wonderful dragonfly photos of yours! Beautiful!

What a fabulous collection of dragonflies….they are all so different in their coloration. I posted one this week that was basically grayish white but with green eyes and some green on his face. I am always amazed my them. They are true wonders of Mother Nature. genie
